It matters that I worship

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12.30

We are all very different. Part of the wonder of creation is that each of us is unique and somehow we all reflect the wonder of God in an individual way.  However, at first glance this command given by Jesus seems impossible to fulfil.  It seems to suggest that we should give up everything else we do in life and spend it in 24-hour worship!

When Jesus uses the word ‘your’, he is speaking to everyone but also to each of us individually.  God wants you to worship with all of your heart because he loves what makes you unique, and if everyone in the world apart from you worshipped him with all of their hearts, he would still be missing out on something important.  Your individuality is so precious to God.  The parable of the lost sheep comes to mind.  The shepherd still had ninety-nine other sheep but the one that went astray mattered so much that he left the ninety-nine to go in search of it.

Your individual worship matters to God because you are uniquely loved by him and he misses you when your heart is not turned to him.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
