It’s going to be OK

“But after I have risen . . .” Mark 14.28

The setting for this statement is just after the Last Supper when Jesus was speaking with real honesty about the events that were about to take place. He revealed to his disciples the truth that they would all fall away, but in the midst of this he disclosed a stunning fact that none of the disciples seemed to pick up – that he would rise again. Quite naturally they were focussing on the words of Jesus about what was going to go wrong, so none of them caught the big picture – it was all going to be OK in the end.

This can be so true of how we tend to view life. We can be so focussed on what is going on in our immediate circumstances that we forget to keep in front of us the bigger vision that God is unfolding in our lives; a vision that Paul speaks of in Ephesians 1.10: ‘to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ.’ Whatever else is going on in our lives, the big picture is that despite any setbacks we may be seeing, God is at work within us and through us to bring everything under the lordship of Jesus.

As an act of faith, take time today to reflect on the things that have happened over the past three days – the Easter events and also the events in your own life – and worship God for this bigger vision that he has been unfolding in your life: everything is going to be OK and whether or not you have seen it, the kingdom of God has grown.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
