It’s not about limping but about worship!

‘By faith Jacob . . . worshipped as he leaned on the top of his staff.’ Hebrews 11.21

This is a very powerful verse that takes account of our human weaknesses. Jacob used a staff – a walking stick – because he had a limp resulting from a moment in his life when he wrestled with God. In that time of struggle, God touched his leg and from then on Jacob walked with a limp. So this is a touching picture of Jacob worshipping God as he leant upon his stick.

You may often try to hide your weaknesses from other people, as you don’t want them to see how you really are, but what you cannot do is hide from God. He knows you through and through, your strengths as well as your weaknesses. Yet what he really values is when you stand before him in worship, just being yourself.

We all have wounds which come from a variety of sources, some self-inflicted, some from the hands of others and even some that you might wonder if they come from God. What really counts is standing before him, with all your wounds, worshipping him and acknowledging that he has called you into being and has sent Jesus to demonstrate the extent of his love. The most important thing about you is not your limping but whether you are a worshipper.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
