It’s your right

‘Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God’ John 1.12

Calling God ‘Father’ is nice and comforting, but it carries with it far more than this. It is about the right to be in a unique relationship and to enjoy all the privileges that come with it. This relationship is permanent; no matter what you do, you can never stop being your father’s child.

’Father’ is not a random word you might suddenly decide to use one day. Actually you have permission, ‘the right’, to call God ‘Father’ not because you want to, but because he decrees it. It does not depend on whether or not you feel like it, or whether you have been good enough for it; God has done this.

As you look forward to the day ahead, you bear God’s name. You have his permission and the right, given to you by God himself, to forget what may have gone before and to face this day as a child of the Father, knowing you are loved by him and that his character dwells within you so you can draw upon it at any time.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
