Jesus is alive | 2

‘… Jesus Christ, who is … the firstborn from the dead’ Revelation 1.5

The resurrection of Jesus is an incredible event that affects us profoundly, and this phrase tells us why. Jesus is described as the firstborn from the dead – it is us who come after. In other words, because Jesus was raised from the dead there is a promise that we will share in that resurrection. We are sharing in it already.

We can rejoice with genuine hearts that we need not fear death; Jesus has been raised from the dead and has gone ahead to prepare a place for us. Death is not the end for us, for beyond it lies a life with Jesus.

However, our faith is not simply about comfort when we die; the resurrection of Jesus also has a profound effect upon us in this life. In the letter to the Hebrews, Jesus is said to have ‘the power of an indestructible life’ (Hebrews 7.16). In other words, we share in his resurrection by having access to the one who cannot be contained by death.

When you pray, the one who is there for you is the one who has conquered death itself and even a grave could not restrict him.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
