Jesus is for real

‘Jesus declared, “I who speak to you am he.”’ John 4.26

The context of this statement was Jesus speaking to a Samaritan woman who was trying to grasp the significance of what he was saying. She declared that she was waiting for the Messiah, who would make everything clear. At this point Jesus spoke these powerful words, “I who speak to you am he”, and declared himself to be the Messiah. If she believed this, presumably everything else he said could also be trusted.

This is a conviction to which we all need to return, for there will be many moments when things around us are confusing and life is not working out as we would like. At moments like this, do we really trust the words of Jesus that he will be with us always? If we believe him and trust that he is here with us, then so too is all his compassion and power to help, which means that our fears can begin to subside – but only if we trust this statement from John 4, that Jesus really is who he says he is.

Find a quiet place and let your plans for the day run through your mind. Focus on the words of Jesus, “I am with you always”, and let them settle over you and your plans. Slowly repeat these words and allow his presence to change your outlook.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
