Jesus is king | 3

‘… Jesus Christ, who is … the ruler of the kings of the earth.’ Revelation 1.5

To some extent, we are all at the mercy of other people. Sometimes you may feel this more keenly, particularly if you feel subject to discrimination, prejudice, ignorance or misunderstanding, and it can feel as if you have nowhere to turn.

To say all you have to do is pray can sound like a bit of a cliché, because you may have turned your heart to prayer many times. However, there is something you can do before you pray: begin to dwell on the person of Jesus enthroned on high. It is always good to be aware of the reality of Jesus understanding and caring for you right now, but it is also good to gaze upon the truth that Jesus is also enthroned on high. He reigns above every other power, and everything is beneath his feet. This is the Jesus who is with you in your troubles, the one who has the power to sustain you and lift you up.

Before you pray, take a few moments to fix your eyes upon Jesus on the throne, and see your lives and troubles from his perspective.
