Kingdom without end

‘Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.’ Isaiah 9.7

These wonderful words of hope were spoken by Isaiah as he looked forward to a time in the future when someone new would enter this world, an individual such as the world had never seen before.  This was Jesus.

Isaiah’s words give us an amazing revelation of the kingdom that Jesus came to bring.  Isaiah was stating something far more profound than his belief that there would be no end to Jesus’ government.  What he actually said was that there will be no end to its increase.  In other words, the rule and authority of Jesus increases every single day.

This is a huge encouragement as we continue to pray for some things on a regular basis while perhaps also fearing that nothing much changes.  The truth is that every time you pray for something, God’s kingdom increases.  You may not see the increase, or it might be of a different nature to which you were expecting, but this is the truth that Isaiah glimpsed all those centuries ago: there will be no end to the growth of God’s reign in your life.

Take heart from this – God’s kingdom is increasing through each of your prayers.  Recognise that he is at work and give thanks for his presence in all situations.
