Knowing Jesus

‘What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord’ Philippians 3.8
This is quite some statement. There is nothing in life that compares to knowing Jesus, and what’s more, it is so wonderful to know him that everything else just gets in the way.
If you are honest, you may not be able to say this verse with the same conviction as Paul. Many people enjoy their relationship with Christ, but there are other things they enjoy as well, and as wonderful as your fellowship with him might be, you can be made to feel a little guilty if other things rate highly in your enjoyment of life.
What this verse gives us is an amazing assurance that there is more. Knowing Jesus Christ can be the most exciting and wonderful thing in your life. Even if it is not so now, it can be. Jesus is not seeking to take everything from you because he is a spoilsport, he is seeking to get across to you the amazing fact that knowing him is better than anything else you can experience in this life.
If you get pleasure from other things, enjoy them and be thankful, but also listen to Jesus whispering in your ear, “There is something even better, come closer!”
