‘This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us — whatever we ask — we know that we have what we asked of him.’ 1 John 5.14-15
Do you ever find yourself seeking the missing ingredient to prayer, wondering if there is something you can do to help get your prayers answered?
Prayer is a living conversation with Father God. All of us will relate to him slightly differently, just as different children within one family all have a unique relationship with their parents. There is no missing ingredient! However, this verse does tell us something about prayer that we often forget. It speaks about the knowledge and certainty that our prayers have been heard. Logically we know that this is true, but from time to time, in our hearts, we probably wonder – did he hear me?
It is an amazing thought that every prayer you have ever prayed has been heard by God. Giving thanks for this is natural and it is also an important act of faith – not just for God’s benefit but also for your heart. When you give thanks that he has heard your prayers, and really believe that this is true, then it can give you great peace to know that the one who loves you more than you could know has heard your prayer – and being God he won’t forget it!
