‘Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.’ Proverbs 12.1
The point behind this verse is quite simple: if you want to grow, you must be prepared to learn, and learning involves correction. None of us enjoy being corrected, especially when it is in public, but if we avoid it completely then we are probably either perfect or fearful of being shown up!
As you look back over this past year, what have you learnt about God, or about the way you follow him? Some of these may well be through wonderful experiences of his love and provision, whereas others might have been lessons learnt a harder way – perhaps by being corrected or humbled in front of others. If you can look back and consider what you have learnt, and how you have learnt it, then you are going to be more likely to recognise God’s guidance and teaching next time.
So at the end of this year, why not spend a few minutes now thinking about what you have learnt about God throughout this past year? What has he taught you about his love, his care and his provision?
