Loving God with our hearts

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart” Mark 12.30

Perhaps a verse that best sums up what it means to love God with all our hearts would be Colossians 3.17: ‘And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus’.  This verse is imploring us to do whatever we set ourselves to do, or whatever we find ourselves doing, as if Jesus was standing right there watching and encouraging us.

Two reasons why you might fail to bring him fully into the situations facing you are that you may not be convinced that he is there in the first place, or you might suspect that he is not particularly interested in what you are doing.  Neither is true!  Jesus is everywhere that you are because he promised he would always be with you.

The consequence of this is that every single thing you decide to do becomes an opportunity for you to worship him, not by verbalising words of worship but by doing everything as if he was present – because he is.  The presence of Jesus with people varied in different situations.  He exhibited a willingness to serve when he washed the feet of his friends, the bravery to speak up in defence of the woman taken in adultery and the compassion to pray and heal the sick.

You can change the world around you today by taking to heart this command to love God with all your heart and to bring him into everything that you do.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
