‘Now my eyes will be open and my ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.’ 2 Chronicles 7.15
The context of this verse is that Solomon had just dedicated his newly built temple to God and that very night God delivered his view and vision of it, including his intention to be attentive to the prayers offered there.
When Paul spoke about the nature of Christians, he spoke about us being ‘temples of the Holy Spirit’. Since he was well versed in the Old Testament, Paul would not have used the phrase lightly, but would have had a real awareness of the significance of the Old Testament temple as a place to which God was drawn and attentive.
We are his temples now, and God is attentive to the prayers offered within us. He hears everything we say, and knows the dreams and suffering behind these words. So often we think our prayers are not ‘getting through’, being ignored, or even that God, for some perverse reason, is doing the exact opposite of what we pray.
Let the truth of this verse sink in and know that out of his amazing love for you, God is attentive to your prayers; he listens and hears everything.
“God, your eyes are open to me, and your ears attentive to my prayers.”
