Passing on grace

‘Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.’ 1 Peter 4.10

The implication of this verse is that we have been entrusted with a reservoir of God’s grace and have a choice whether or not to open it. God hopes, of course, that we will always allow his grace to flow, but we are his co-workers in this process. The alternative is that we open other reservoirs that may exist within us, perhaps anger or bitterness, or even reservoirs that we may think have dried up, but which can have a negative effect on others.

However, this passage is addressed to ‘each one’, which means all of us. If you are speaking with other people today, which reservoir will you open for them?

God has shown remarkable grace to each of us and has given us Jesus to demonstrate his kindness. It may be worth considering how much grace you show towards yourself because if you can begin to see yourself through God’s eyes, you are more likely to see others through his graceful eyes as well.

What does it mean to you to be loved by God? Take it seriously and enjoy it.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
