‘Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life’ Psalm 23.6

There is something won­der­ful about knowing that goodness and love follow us every day whether we sense it or not. Some days we may be very open to the truth that goodness and love follow us, while on other days they may seem to be totally absent! Yet David proclaims their presence every single day.

If goodness and love are there every day, we do not have to ask God to give them to us. How can he if he has already done so? What we can ask for is that he opens our eyes to see where his goodness and love may be for us at any given time.

We are far too used to assuming that the things of God are not there because we cannot feel them. Perhaps they are and have been with us all the time, but we can’t feel them because we are not tuned into them.

Jesus promised he would be with us always; he is goodness and love personified. This prayer is simple to pray, but can be quite transforming: ask Jesus where he is right now. Is he within you, beside you or around you? There is no correct answer – he has been following you, and probably leading you all day long. Find his presence and enjoy it.
