Reflecting heaven

“…on earth as it is in heaven.” Matthew 6.10

This phrase more than any other opens up the incredible nature of God’s desire for the world, and therefore also his desire for us who live in it.

There is probably no doubt in your mind that heaven (however you perceive it) reflects the wonder, the will and the beauty of God; what God wants surrounds him in heaven. His desire is for his will to be done on earth in the same way as it is in heaven so that the whole earth, and the life of each individual, will reflect the wonder, will and beauty of God.

Some human suffering genuinely seems to bring profound glory to God, but it is our lack of vision that says it is the only way God can be glorified. Rather than endorsing suffering, the fact that God can work through something that does not reflect the wonder of heaven shows something amazing about the power of God.

God’s desire is for the glory of heaven to be reflected on this earth. As you pray for events in your life and in the lives of others, begin by catching the vision of how these situations would look through the perspective of heaven and then reflect this in yourprayers.
