“Don’t you remember…?” Matthew 16.9
The disciples were in the boat and wondering where their lunch was coming from! In his encouragement to keep their faith alive, Jesus referred them back to the two episodes where the 5,000 and 4,000 people had been fed, and then went on to ask his disciples this question, “Don’t you remember…?”
When we pray to God and he answers our prayers, this shouldn’t be the end of the matter. We should learn from prayer so that we are led closer to God and have our faith built up for the future.
It’s worth thinking back over the past week and considering what God has done for you. Which prayers has he answered? What you have learnt from these occasions – about God, his character, goodness and provision? A further step in this reflection is to decide what you will take into the days and weeks ahead. If God has done something for you and you have learned from it, what difference will it make in the future?
God’s desire is for relationship with you and not simply to be an eternal slot machine. He has done all he can do to foster that relationship, and what counts now is how you respond to him.
