Rejoicing in his love

‘For the Lord takes delight in his people…. Let the saints rejoice in this honour…’ Psalm 149.4-5
Things in which we take pleasure or delight bring us joy, and simply looking at them and touching them brings pleasure to us. The psalmist speaks of God viewing his people in the same way: looking at us brings pleasure to God and being in our company brings him delight.
This is so far removed from what we often suspect God thinks of us. Many people think they disgust God, that he is angry with them or simply tolerates them, so it is hard to grasp this revelation that he delights in us. In fact, the reason it has been revealed to us is probably because we would be unlikely to catch it ourselves.
Most of the time we do very little with this truth, probably because we cannot believe it! The psalm encourages us to rejoice, exult and become jubilant. So why not pause for a moment to let this truth sink in: God delights in you, he actually takes pleasure in you. Then in whatever way is natural to you, rejoice in it, take it seriously and express to him how this makes you feel.
Why not take a little extra time this morning to find the presence of Jesus with you right now by listening to one of John’s meditations: http://www.healingmission.org/focusonhealing
