‘When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realised that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.’ Acts 4.13
Perhaps one of the highest compliments we could ever receive is to be spoken of as someone who has been with Jesus. This is what shone through Peter and John, despite their lack of formal education and status, and other people noticed it.
As for these two men, perhaps they never stopped to plan exactly what they hoped to achieve for the Lord each day. Their success may not have been due to their own planning and strategy, but simply because they had been with Jesus and something of him was shining through them. They probably didn’t even know what they had achieved and passed on to others.
You may feel that your times of prayer are often dull and seemingly unproductive, but the fact that you are setting aside time to be with Jesus is itself producing fruit that will be a blessing to others – whether or not you are aware of it.
As you take time to pray, simply sit looking at Jesus whilst he looks at you. You may never know the effect of this simple action, but something of the one upon whom you gaze is bound to flow from him to you and then out of you to others. Gradually you will begin to resemble him.
