‘In their own eyes they flatter themselves’ Psalm 36.2
How do we know how we are doing and whether our Christian lives are living up to God’s standard? It can be very easy to deceive ourselves and assume that because God loves us everything must be OK.
This psalm gives us a key for measuring our lives. It begins by talking about ‘the wicked’ who flatter themselves and because of this have no regard for what is right or wrong. Rather than describing the opposite, David turns his heart to pondering the love of God. He meditates on just how priceless the unfailing love of God is.
This seems to be the key to understanding and evaluating our lives. Are you really able to rest in the wonder of God’s love for you? If you are, then it is likely you will be able to stand in his light with no condemnation and joyfully accept his love and transformation. However, if you cannot stand firmly in his love, the chance is that you will approach God with fear and apprehension.
Take time now to stand in the light of God. Quite literally see yourself standing with a shaft of his light on you, representing his love, tenderness and gentle transformation. Come back to this touch of God as often as you wish throughout the day.
We have a few spaces left on our Encounter Prayer group session this afternoon at 2.00pm. Use the link below to book your place and rest in the wonder of God’s love for you.
