Seek your Servant

‘…all my ways are known to you.’ Psalm 119.168

You probably have no difficulty agreeing with the psalmist’s sentiment here; in fact you are probably only too aware of the truth of these words! Of course God knows everything about you, including the ways you might have let him down, yet these words are not meant to condemn you.

The very last verse in this psalm contains the words, ‘Seek your servant’. By reading these two phrases together we glimpse a person who was totally open and honest before God; acknowledging that there could be no pretence between them and yet confidently inviting God to draw close.

As you come to God today, recognise that he knows absolutely everything about you and that there is no need to keep anything hidden. Invite him to ‘Seek your servant’, or in other words to draw close to you. This is an act of recognition that you really do belong to him, an act of surrender that you need him and an act of trust that he wants to be with you.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
