Showing love

‘Defend the weak and the fatherless; uphold the cause of the poor and the oppressed.’ Psalm 82.3

We are very prone to seeing life through the perspective of our own needs.  Whilst the message rings out from the pages of scripture that God cares for our needs, it also becomes obvious from reading the Bible that God is on the side of justice and care for the weak.  He wants us to catch his desire and make it our own.

This may well mean looking beyond our own needs to reach out to help someone else.  There are many ways we can do this, but perhaps the most important step is to allow God to open our eyes to the need around us.  All it takes is a simple prayer – “Father, open my eyes to see someone I can help.”  The help may not even be of earth-shattering significance, perhaps a small gift of time or even a smile to make someone feel valued and not just a face in the crowd.

As soon as we take this step and try to make a difference to others, we really are beginning to walk with Jesus.  What a privilege to show a little care to those whom he cares for so passionately and in our own gentle way to work alongside Jesus.

“Father, open my eyes to see someone I can help today.”

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
