‘The seventh time the servant reported, “A cloud as small as a man’s hand is rising from the sea.” 1 Kings 18.44
Elijah knew the rain was coming. Seven times Elijah sent his servant to see if the clouds were forming, and finally on the seventh trip the servant proclaimed that a small cloud could be seen. Perhaps panic was beginning to set in after the fourth or fifth trip to see the as yet nonexistent cloud! The point is that Elijah had been promised rain and he fully expected it to come. He watched out for it and rejoiced when he saw the beginning of the promise being fulfilled.
What issues are you praying about? Perhaps you have been praying about them for so long you are beginning to despair of getting any result. The encouragement from Elijah is to be expectant of an answer, and to watch for and rejoice in even the smallest of encouragements.
In this story it seems that the time between the appearance of the small cloud and the arrival of the storm was very short. So watch for the encouragements, delight in them and see them as the first fruits of God fulfilling his promises to you.
