Stand firm!

“If you do not stand firm in your faith, you will not stand at all.”  Isaiah 7.9 There are different ways we can read this verse.  One of them is to read it through the lens of judgment – a calling to take our faith seriously because if we do not, we really will be in trouble and doomed to failure. Another way of looking at it is as an invitation.  Many people may not think that they are standing very firm in their faith because it is so easy to be aware of the times when they feel they could have done better and should have held more firmly onto God, particularly when looking back with hindsight!  The encouragement offered in this verse is an invitation to live differently today – to consciously decide to stand firm in our faith.  This is about taking seriously the core factors of our faith and applying them to our day, not just as we look back but as we look ahead. As you look forward, try to hold on to these key truths: you are loved by Father God in a way that you will never comprehend, the same Jesus who walked this earth, died and was raised to life again is right with you, and there is a stunning power available to guide you through the day ahead as a transformed child of God. Now step into the day to face what lies ahead, standing firm in your faith!
