Staying in his presence

“… do not be negligent now, for the Lord has chosen you to stand before him and serve him” 2 Chronicles 29.11

One of the tensions we often face in our Christian lives is working out what we are meant to do and what we should leave for God to do. This verse provides a little insight into where to begin. It starts with vision.

The calling to all Christians is “do not be negligent” about who you are. In other words, you need to be attentive to the fact that you have been chosen to be in God’s presence and serve him. Your ability to see yourself as being chosen by him will govern what acts of service flow from you.

It is very easy to neglect this command and think of yourself as a failure compared to other people. In fact, it is often easier to think like this than to see yourself as God sees you, a person chosen to stand in his presence. What’s more, you are not just given permission to see yourself standing in his presence but are actually commanded to do so.

Take a moment right now to consider this truth: wherever you are physically, you are also ‘before him’, actually in his presence. Let this truth run through your mind: ‘I stand before you Lord.’

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
