Thankfulness | 2

‘. . . and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”’ 1 Corinthians 11.24

What is your attitude when things turn dark? We learn from this verse that Jesus’ immediate response was to give thanks. If he did this in a moment of darkness, presumably it was so natural that it must have been second nature to him.

However, for something to become second nature we have to develop and practise it now. How do we do this? It is not about giving thanks for things we are not the slightest bit grateful for, but it is about beginning to turn our minds to what we truly appreciate – people or occasions that bring wonder and delight into our life. It is one thing to appreciate them, but even better to recognise them as God’s specific and individual gifts to us, and to be thankful for them.

Being able to see people, blessings and circumstances as touches of God’s personal love for you keeps thanksgiving real. Why not begin to give thanks for what he has done for you?

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
