‘But I, by your great mercy, will come into your house’ Psalm 5.7
Two great truths are highlighted in this phrase. The first is that prayer is not simply about muttering words or a silent longing in our minds. It begins (or at least it can do) with the attitude that we are stepping into God’s presence. This is true whether we do anything about it or not, but how wonderful to actually take the time to make it a reality for us.
The second truth is that we can come into the presence of God through grace, which has already been poured out. In other words, we can trust that as we turn to God in prayer, it is his delight and pleasure that we are there because he has opened every door to make this possible.
So before you utter a single word in prayer, pause to remember where you are and why you are there – you are in the very presence of God because he has gone before you and opened the door. Now you can begin to pray with confidence!
