The faithfulness of God

‘… if we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself.’ 2 Timothy 2.13

If someone fails us or lets us down somehow, it is natural for us to cool a little towards them. Our treatment of others often mirrors their treatment of us. And we can be so quick to judge God by our own standards.

This verse proclaims that God is quite different. Whereas we may fail him, let him down and often forget him completely, Paul says God will never do this to us. Indeed, it is impossible for God to treat us like this, as faithfulness is in his very nature.

You might feel that God has let you go because of what you have done. It is easy to assume your past actions or present attitudes have caused him to change his plans and dreams for you. Yet what if this is simply not true and the change has been on your part rather than his? Perhaps he has never moved away? If this is true, then all it takes is for you to trust again in his wonderful love for you and step back into his presence.

Whatever you may be like, God is, and always will be, utterly faithful to you. Let these words fill your mind now.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
