‘Jesus said to them, “My Father is always at his work…”’ John 5.17
God, our loving father, is always at his work of loving, saving and caring. What’s more, nothing you do or don’t do will alter this fact one jot. Whether you have been active or inactive in your Christian life or faithful or unfaithful in your prayers, he is still at work.
Although we should be committed to our times of prayer, it is possible to get caught up in carrying other people and persisting in prayer for things we do not yet see and then begin to feel that a positive outcome depends on us and our prayers. This, in turn, can cause feelings of guilt when we forget or are too busy to pray, or simply get overwhelmed by it all.
For this reason, we need to come back to the wonder of the presence of God on a regular basis, sitting in his presence and being reminded that the activity is his and all the glory belongs to him.
Take a moment to relax from all your praying and rejoice in the Father’s love for you; let the Holy Spirit reveal the nearness of Jesus to you – and enjoy his presence.
