The kindness of God | 1

“But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.” Luke 6.35

There is a wonderfully unexpected message in this verse. We might expect God to be kind only to those who obey him and do exactly as he wants, but here Jesus reveals that God is kind to all, whether or not they deserve it.

This is not a license for us to go out and be as mean as possible, knowing that God will still be kind and gracious to us! Instead, it is an open door to the heart of God, assuring us that when we fail and let him down we are not banished from his love and care, but are welcomed back and invited once again to enjoy relationship with him.

The kindness of God means there is always an open door between you and him. You may see your failure, but he bursts with love for you. This love is not just a vague abstract feeling; it is real and it is kind. Take a moment to sit in the presence of God now, aware that his kindness is surrounding you and that he wants to bless you.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
