‘“…I am the LORD, who heals you.”’ Exodus 15.26
Despite all the medical progress over the years and our fascination and preoccupation with health and fitness, the word ‘healing’ continues to attract and draw us to seek something we need.
Perhaps it is because people are less frightened to admit to issues such as stress or even aspects of mental illness, but certainly the need for healing seems to be as great as it ever was. So this revelation of God as our healer resonates with us all and says two profound things.
The first thing it says is that God is on the side of those who are weak. The very name ‘healer’ implies a deep care for those who are in need of healing. If you feel that describes you, you already have God’s attention.
The second thing it says is that God is seeking to bring change to those of us who are in need. God does not simply sympathise, he is our ‘healer’ and we can seek him as such.
The healing God brings can come in a variety of ways. Most commonly, it seems to flow through others to us. A massive step to finding God’s healing is to summon up the courage to ask someone to pray for you. These prayers may be profound, or they may be simple, but they are in accord with this revelation of God as the one who wants to be known as our healer.
Which part of your life do you want to offer to Christ the healer right now? What do you need him to do for you that you cannot do for yourself?
