‘But the fruit of the Spirit is … patience’ Galatians 5.22
What a relief to know the Spirit within us is patient! Impatience and desperation are terms we might be tempted to think of as his feelings towards us. His patience stems from the fact that he loves us and because he has the joy of seeing at first-hand the wonders of God.
His patience probably also stems from the fact that you are not the only human being he has ever dwelt in, and he has seen everything before. He has accompanied people like you through situations just like those you face. What may be a new experience and constitute a crisis for you is not utterly bewildering for him. He has literally seen it all before.
Another reason for the Holy Spirit’s patience is because he is totally at peace with who you are and doesn’t wish that you were someone else; he is committed to letting you grow and develop into the unique person you are. He is patient, and for him you are worth the wait.
Hold on to this reassuring truth that the Holy Spirit doesn’t want you to be just like someone else, but is longing for you to become more like the unique person God created you to be.
