‘But the fruit of the Spirit is … peace’ Galatians 5.22
It’s a wonderful thought that the Spirit who produces peace must himself be at peace within us. If we are honest, our tendency may be to think of the Spirit as one who is constantly chivvying and anxiously reminding us of all we need to know, wondering if we will ever learn or improve beyond where we are.
However, the Spirit is peace and because of this the more you can tune into him, the more his peace is able to flow through every part of you. A good way of doing this is to choose to believe he is at peace within you. Conversely, if you choose not to believe this, you will find yourself fighting him and his nature.
God loves you and delights in you; out of his love he has sent his Spirit to dwell in you and to bring you every good thing he has for you. When we believe the Spirit is on the look-out to condemn us, we must grieve him terribly. He is actually longing for us to catch the fact that he is perfectly at peace with us.
As you say these words, say them in time with your breathing: “The Spirit of God is peace within me.”
