The perfect relationship

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me— just as the Father knows me and I know the Father” John 10.14-15

There is a sense in which analysing relationships may not be particularly healthy and the best thing is to get on and enjoy them!  On the other hand, the Bible gives us glimpses of what our relationship with God could look like.  This is not to make us feel guilty for having a less than perfect connection with God, but rather to give us a sense of what more we can enjoy.

This verse is one such phrase; it gives us a glimpse into what could be.  It likens our relationship with Jesus to the relationship that he enjoyed with his Father.  We can know and be loved by Jesus to the same extent that he knew and was loved by Father God.  This sounds almost unbelievable!  It suggests an intimacy with God that is beyond our imagination – but the first step to walking into this relationship is simply to catch a vision of it, which can then be turned into a prayer or meditation.

Take these words and repeat them to yourself slowly and thoughtfully: ‘Jesus, you want me to know your love just as you know the Father’s love’.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
