Thinking like God

‘Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.”’  Mark 8.34

This call to discipleship is deeply challenging – it is a call to live totally for Jesus and not for ourselves. Our actions play a large part in following him, but so too does our thinking. As followers of Jesus, we are to deny thinking about ourselves in ways that differ from how Jesus thinks of us.

Every time we allow ourselves to consider the possibility that we are unloved, or that somehow the promises of God do not apply to us, we are filling our minds with thoughts that are not of God. We are called to follow him, and this includes accepting his thinking.

So what are God’s thoughts about us? Psalm 139.17 says, ‘How amazing are your thoughts concerning me, God! How vast is the sum of them!’

God’s thoughts about each of us are numerous and precious, and to follow him is to accept that we are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ and loved beyond measure. Capture this thought for yourself now.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
