This is good news!

‘We take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ’ – 2 Corinthians 10.5

What do you think it means to make something obedient to Christ? To be honest, the way it is put sounds a bit like bad news and hard work, rather like making sure that everything we think conforms to the will of a hard slave driver! Yet nothing could be further from the truth! Obedience to Christ is about trying to make sure that things in our lives conform to what he said.

It is amazing to grasp just how much of Jesus’ message was about love, either giving or receiving it, yet instead of focussing on this, I suspect that what goes through our minds quite often is negative thinking about ourselves. We so easily feel that we are not good enough, are unlovable, or that past actions disqualify us from receiving the love of God or others.

To make such thinking obedient to Christ is to try to accept the depth of his love for us – that we are valued so much that he gave his life for us, we really are forgiven, and in his eyes we are so precious and wonderful.

In other words, making our thoughts obedient to Christ is good news; we will be blessed by it, and it could well change our lives!

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
