“… everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made.” Isaiah 43.7
The third great truth that God speaks about through this wonderful verse of Isaiah’s is your uniqueness and value to God. He formed and made you. The word ‘formed’ carries the connotation of something that a potter has made by hand. In other words, God has created each one of us uniquely and wonderfully. Perhaps the word that stands out in this third phrase is ‘I’. You may agree with the psalmist that you are ‘fearfully and wonderfully made’ (Psalm 139.14), but this phrase from Isaiah emphasises something more compelling – it is God who has formed and made you; you are not an accident.
You may wonder whether you have any significance at all. You may often compare yourself to others and wish you were more like them. When that happens, you have probably slipped away from the profound truth that the Lord God has created you uniquely.
Take a moment to let the words ‘he formed and made me’ run through your mind slowly and deliberately. Begin to delight in the truth of them and start to catch the delight of the Creator in what he has made.
