Using your gifts

‘All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.’  1 Corinthians 12.11

Admitting that we have a gift from God can sound very boastful! We tend to shrug it off and think that we are nothing special. Yet it really is OK to recognise that we have a gift – after all, we haven’t earned it. It is something God has chosen to give to us just because he wants to, and has nothing to do with whether or not we are good enough. If you think about it like this, it is quite humbling to admit to having a gift from God because it means we could not achieve what we do without it.

So once we have admitted to having a gift, we have the potential of using it for God’s glory. It’s easy to spend a long time quibbling about whether we have a particular gift from God or if it is simply something that we would do naturally, but however we feel about this, what we have should be a blessing to others. The reason God has given us gifts is not for us to admire his handiwork in us, but for the benefit of others.

You may like to use this simple prayer: “Father, thank you for making me who I am. Let me be a blessing to the people I come across today.”

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
