‘Ten days later the word of the Lord came to Jeremiah.’ Jeremiah 42.7
In this particular story, Jerusalem had been captured and most of the people exiled, leaving only a few folk behind. These people came to Jeremiah and asked him to seek the Lord on their behalf about what they were meant to do next. Presumably they sensed Jeremiah was a man of God with a reputation for hearing the voice of God in a much clearer way than they could. Jeremiah agreed to ask the Lord for them, but interestingly the word of God only came to him after ten days.
We live in an age where we expect everything to happen immediately, including answers to our prayers, and if they are not answered quickly then we assume God has forgotten or is not interested. Yet even Jeremiah, as close and intimate with God as he was, waited ten days for God to speak to him.
If you are in a period of waiting for God to speak or act and nothing seems to be happening, then be encouraged and do not assume God is either silent or disinterested. This can be particularly tempting in the area of healing, as each day that healing does not happen the assumption is that it is less likely to occur in the future. This is not true; God has simply not spoken or acted yet, or he may be doing something in another area of your life first. It certainly need not imply you are at fault in any way.
