Walking with Open Eyes

‘Then their eyes were opened’ Luke 24.31

The account of Jesus meeting the disciples on the road to Emmaus has some strange moments! Throughout the story Jesus seems to be waiting for the disciples to grasp the truth of the resurrection for themselves, without him having to reveal himself to them. He seems to be longing for them to make this leap of faith.

The story begins with Jesus walking with them, though they don’t know who he is. He encourages them to share the story of all that has happened, and he even shares relevant scriptures with them. In the end they simply can’t make the connection for themselves, so he reveals himself for who he really is – and then promptly disappears!

God loves it when we believe by faith, regardless of whether we have had dramatic experiences. Can you actually believe he is alive today as he was then? Could it really be true? If it is, what difference will it make to your day?

Make a decision to believe the truth of what the Bible reveals about the resurrection, and then walk through this day choosing to believe that the living Jesus walks with you.

A healing touch from Jesus can be life changing – which is wonderful! – but if you, or the people you are praying for, are inclined to make any significant change to your lifestyle, please think it through carefully and check it out with a wise friend, doctor or church leader first.
