‘… Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness’ Revelation 1.5
Some incredible statements about Jesus feature in this verse and the next, and we will be looking carefully at them over the next few days. This first statement begins by describing Jesus as ‘the faithful witness’.
The full and perfect revelation of the nature of God can be seen in Jesus. Many people don’t have a problem believing in God, but aren’t sure what he is really like. This verse reveals that according to the Bible, Jesus reveals God perfectly.
Every story about Jesus – the work that flowed from his hands and each time he spoke – reveals something about God. Indeed, a wonderful exercise is to take any story from the Gospels and ask yourself what Jesus is showing you about God.
It is interesting that Jesus is described not just as a witness, but a faithful witness. In other words, he chose to reveal God. Presumably he could have been an unreliable witness if he had wished, but such was his knowledge of the wonder of God that he deliberately chose to perfectly and faithfully reveal him, because there could be no better way for us to see and understand what God is really like.
Why not turn to a story about Jesus in the Bible and give some thought to what Jesus is choosing to reveal to you today about God.
