‘One day Jesus was teaching, and Pharisees and teachers of the law were sitting there. They had come from every village of Galilee and from Judea and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was with Jesus to heal those who were ill.’ Luke 5.17
This verse gives us an insight into the background of this particular story. Jesus was visible, along with many people – including some religious leaders and teachers – who were listening to him. As the story unfolds we discover that there was also at least one sick person being carried there by friends.
We are made aware of other aspects of this scenario, things unseen. It becomes apparent that the religious leaders bore a certain hostility to Jesus and were watching him. Added to this mix, we also read that the power of the Lord was present.
Today, you will encounter situations where much is obvious, but there will also be other influences you cannot see. Sometimes you might even pick up unseen tensions or anxieties around you. Whatever is going on, it is always worth remembering that one factor never changes – Jesus is there with you, along with all his love, wisdom and power.
A lovely habit worth adopting is to whisper his name in tune with your breathing, to remind yourself of his presence in every situation in which you find yourself. Jesus is always there!
