‘The men seized Jesus and arrested him.’ Mark 14.46
When we read this verse, it is easy to see the power at work against Jesus. He did not deserve this, yet still the men came against him with so much violence. You may be able to identify with this. Although it is unlikely that you are facing the depth of suffering that he faced, perhaps you have a sense of injustice at what you are going through and feel powerless in your particular situation.
So let’s ask this question – where was the real power in this story? Was it really in the hands of those who came to arrest him, or was it in the hands of Jesus? We know that he could have summoned angels to help him or said something so wise that the situation was changed – but he didn’t! He let this happen to him because he knew it would achieve a greater good. In other words, the people who came to arrest Jesus thought that they had all the power, whereas there was really a greater power at work that they could not see or understand.
You may feel there are powers at work in your life over which you have no control. However, the truth is that there is a greater power at work – the power of the risen Lord Jesus. His power is constantly at work to heal and bless you, and to bring you out of the difficult situations in which you find yourself.
