Why not me?

‘… a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.”’ Luke 13.11-12
Jesus describes the act of healing as setting someone free in this story. Although the leader of the synagogue encouraged people not to seek healing on the Sabbath, Jesus opposed him, implying that every day is a day for God to bring freedom. Jesus came to bring freedom and took a firm stand for it.
So what would Jesus love to bring to your life? We can get so used to our wounds, burdens and sicknesses that it never occurs to us to seek freedom from them.
As Jesus looks at your life, what would he make of the things you carry around with you? What is it that stops you bringing these things to him? It may be a lack of conviction that he wants to do anything about them, fear in case nothing happens or perhaps you simply do not know what to do?
Whatever you feel, a good place to begin is to read the Gospel stories of Jesus healing people and think about this question, ‘Why wouldn’t it happen to me?’
