Will you reveal God or hide him?

‘As he approached Jerusalem and saw the city, he wept over it and said, “If you, even you, had only known on this day what would bring you peace – but now it is hidden from your eyes.”’ Luke 19.41-42
It is sad to read of Jesus weeping over Jerusalem. However, it becomes even more tragic when we acknowledge that a city does not consist simply of bricks and buildings but is made up of people; people who will not enjoy what they could have experienced – peace.
Jesus said that the reason for this was because the way of peace had been hidden from them, partly because their leaders had refused to recognise Jesus and all he could do for them.
It is quite amazing that Jesus came as the light of the world, yet our reticence to let his light shine through us means that it may not be seen. Our challenge is whether we will be people who reflect Jesus or prefer to keep him hidden? It is not even as if we have to do anything particularly stunning or ground-breaking – even a kind word can make a huge difference to someone’s life, yet it’s all too easy to pass by thinking it doesn’t matter and assuming someone else will be there for them.
Today you are quite likely to come across someone in need – perhaps discouraged, sad or without hope – and this is your chance to reflect the light of Jesus so that he can shine into their life.
