Words are not enough

‘Surely God is my salvation; I will trust and not be afraid.’ Isaiah 12.2
Trusting God is rather strange! We are called to do it, so we do try to trust him – sort of! Yet how do we know when we are trusting enough? How much is enough? This verse lays out a wonderful truth; trust is very much linked to not being afraid.
It is quite easy to give God all our problems and concerns – but then promptly take them back again! Similarly, it is easy to pray about the things that weigh upon us, but still be just as weighed down by them after prayer as before. The prayer doesn’t really seem to do anything.
The key to learning to trust is to make sure that our trust is in God himself and not simply in the fact that we have prayed. If we are able to ‘see’ our concerns and issues in his hands, then we are probably more likely to be able to leave them with him and let go of them ourselves.
This begins with an ability to see prayer as a relationship with the living God. When Jesus was teaching about prayer, his first piece of advice was that we address it to ‘Father’. In other words, it is not about bombarding heaven with our prayers but involves us coming to the one who has shown his love and commitment to us, and would love us to trust him with the things that weigh us down.
We have a few spaces on our prayer ministry session this afternoon at 2.00pm. John Ryeland will be leading this session and you are very welcome. Click on link below to book your place
