You are wonderful!

‘. . . I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful’ Psalm 139.14

Most people have a fairly poor impression of themselves, either because they feel bad about past actions or because other people have told them directly, or given the impression, that they are of little value.

We can easily end up comparing ourselves to other people, and usually we find ourselves lacking in some significant way. This statement stands against that and shouts out something totally different – that we are wonderful in the eyes of God.

These words invite us to proclaim something that we grudgingly must know is true – namely that God never creates something sub-standard; what he creates has his touch upon it. We are his creation and we bear the mark of his hands upon us.

As we ponder the wonder of who we are, perhaps the area needing most reflection is the fact that we are temples of his Holy Spirit, we carry him within us wherever we go and whatever we do; we are individually and uniquely marked with the presence of God.

You may look at yourself and wonder what God sees in you. You may well compare yourself to others, but when God looks at you, what he sees is the wonder of his presence in you. Spend a moment catching the implication of this incredible truth.
