‘But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless.’ Titus 3.9
Someone once said that the biggest challenge wasn’t the bits of the Bible that they didn’t understand, but rather the bits they did! It can be so easy to get side-tracked in our Christian faith and begin to focus on details that seem so significant, but really have the effect of taking us away from the central facet of our faith – the Father’s gift of Jesus for us.
There will always be things about our faith that we do not understand; issues we just cannot seem to get our head around. Whilst it is excellent to grow in the knowledge of our faith, the danger is that seeking after knowledge replaces our reliance on God’s love for us. At other times, our own circumstances might weigh us down and cause us to ask that often unanswerable question – ‘Why’! Why are such things happening to me? What have I done wrong to open the door to all this? The way to peace starts by returning to the centrality of the Father’s love for us.
However your mind is racing at the moment, come back to God’s personal gift of love to you – Jesus. In God’s opinion, you are worth this costly sacrifice. Take a moment to dwell on the knowledge that you are loved by the Father to such an extent that he gave Jesus for you.
