You have a role to play

‘…in every way they will make the teaching about God our Saviour attractive.’ Titus 2.10

At this point in his letter to Titus, Paul addresses certain groups of people and gives them all advice on how they should conduct themselves. It can sound a bit patronising, but Paul is making a very serious point; we are all witnesses, so make sure you are a good one!

It is a challenging thought. People you know are probably aware that you are a Christian, so do they see your life reflecting what you claim to believe? In another of his letters (Philippians 2.15), Paul encourages his readers to shine like stars in the world in which they live.

The encouragement for us is to recognise just what we are capable of. All too often we feel imprisoned by our circumstances or held back by our feelings, but Paul is saying that whoever we are and whatever situation we are in, we can be witnesses for God. We can shine like stars because we have someone living in us to whom we can turn whatever the circumstances facing us.

It all hinges on remembering that wherever you are, and whatever is going on around you, God is with you. Whisper his name and ask him to help you shine.
