‘. . . and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.’ Psalm 23.6
This is both a statement of reality and a statement of intent. As Jesus is always with us, and because our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, we cannot get away from his presence. That is the sentiment behind Psalm 139.7, ‘Where can I go from your Spirit?’ The answer is nowhere!
However, there is something important about David deciding to ‘dwell in the house of the Lord’. In other words, he chose to dwell in that place. We make a similar decision when we choose to heed the words of Jesus when he says, “Remain in my love.” (John 15.9)
Jesus has revealed his on-going presence with us and it is a matter of choice as to whether we take that seriously – but the good news is that we can make that choice. We have the permission and the authority to make the choice that we will live in the knowledge of his continual presence with us, whatever our feelings might tell us.
If we do make that choice, then every prayer we pray will be uttered face to face with Jesus; every dark moment will be faced in the company of the light of the world, and every lonely hour will be shared with the one who said he would be with us always.
We have a few spaces left on our ministry session tomorrow afternoon. Why not join us? Click on the picture below to book.
